Birchgrove Primary Welcome

A curriculum that is unique to us -

 The Birchgrove ‘I wonder…’ Curriculum

Our community in Birchgrove is unique and our pupils are the beating heart of our school. They deserve to be given learning and nurturing opportunities to be able to achieve our school motto ‘Always be the best you can be’. Our pupils and their families have engaged with us through discussions and questionnaires, and have given their own ideas for what makes a curriculum that is rich and exciting, and prepares pupils for life in the 21st century in Wales. Their input, along with the staff’s exploration of the Welsh Government’s core documents, Successful Futures, A Curriculum for Wales 2022, has led to the creation of Birchgrove Primary School’s ‘I Wonder…’ curriculum.

Learning within the ‘I wonder…’ approach engages the learners from the start to the end. It seeks to draw on the learners’ voice and responds to learners’ needs, experiences and input. It is enquiry-based learning that develops pupils’ autonomy, provides a balance of all six areas of learning and experience, and incorporates the mandatory codes for Religion, Values and Ethics, and Relationships and Sexuality Education.

‘I wonder…’ learning begins with a whole-school philosophical question that all pupils in

all classes explore. The questions are laced with opportunities to engage in the kind of

learning that will support the realisation of the four purposes.
